I recently purchased a Virgin Airlines (VA) Award ticket from NY to LIS. The first leg of the flight is with Delta, and the second one is with Air France. I made the reservation over the phone, and my partner's last name was misspelled - two letters, with the last name ending "Schmizp" instead of "Schmidt". While VA, Delta and Air France allow for minor name changes, VA representatives mentioned that it seems impossible to make a name change without reissuing the tickets, which would incur a higher fare. One VA rep kindly reached out to AF, and it appears that Air France, unlike Delta, does not allow name changes for Award tickets - as reflected in their agreement between VA and AF
For now, I've just separated the two tickets, with the hope that isolating the issue into one ticket may help
After researching multiple flyertalk forums, it seems there are two options:
- Separate the tickets and only reissue the incorrect one at a higher fare.
- Go to the check-in counter at the time of the flight and hope the agent allows us to check-in. I'm unsure if Delta on the way to Lisbon or AF returning to the US will have different policies.
Any advice would be appreciated
