All purchases through other channels count. But be aware, that the earning levels could be as low as 1 point / 1 EUR, GBP or USD spent. If you hold a credit card, the levels are higher, and if you spend in the hotel (including the bill for stays) it counts x 12 or 14 points.
Many already gave up platinum tier, as the company doesˇt really offer any interesting perks anymore. After being platinum for 12 years myself, I didn't renew anymore last now in beginning of April. It is just not worth it!
