Why not considering a night train from Rome to Venice?
This could save one hotel night and lots of time.
It might be a bit pricey at first sight, but you save a night in hotel and time is money!

If you are a couple you can reserve the whole compartment by selecting "Vagone Letto Relax - Doppia Cabina Intera"
