The way home was a different story. Checking the seat map for the flight home on AC933 it looked like there were 13 seats open in J (I guess there could be some people who hadn't selected a seat yet). I checked in right at the T-24h mark (I was sequence #2) and when I looked at the eUp list, there were 26/30 booked. As the day went on, however, that number kept climbing and the next morning J was listed as full. The whole time I was #1 on the eUp list and I was optimistic but somehow that number kept climbing. I'm curious to know if people get eUpgrades cleared at check in and never show up on the upgrade list. Can someone please enlighten me? Thanks in advance!
So, as per the wiki, the seat map is basically useless unless you know
exactly what you're looking for. The seat map on its own is
always useless.
26/30 was probably the real load the whole time. At check-in, AC sells upgrades for prices that a lot of people find reasonable. Finding 4 people to pay mid hundreds of dollars for a 7 hour flight is not challenging.
And while I think this is less likely in CUN, I have changed more than 50% of my AC flights in 2024 within 24 hours of departure, and I'm booked in J. I didn't spend any extra money to do that, but maybe I decided I wanted to fly earlier or later. Or on a flight that I now knew would have wifi. Or pods. Or something else.
"No one" (asterisk asterisk) has their eUp cleared after T-36 and before the 5 minutes after check-in closes.
And that ignores all the people (sometimes me) who just book J within 24 hours of departure, with no previous travel plans.
