Thanks for confirming this- yes of course in a respectful manner. I found most Chinese to be at the polite end of the spectrum (there’s always exceptions, of course, everywhere) so I was very hesitant at first and my Mandarin is really not very good.
But I managed on two occasions to make myself clear and why I was unhappy and in the end got what I wanted. So yes, on rare occasions this seems to be necessary.
