If you want something in walking distance, yet still local and on the river (and not at hotel prices), I would suggest Jack's Bar next to the Shangri-La. It is right on the river without being over-priced.
I would agree with you about tomorrow and not going out of the city. Try to see if you can negotiate a late check-out until as late as possible, and then slowly make your way to the airport. That way you can still have a leisurely day to do whatever you feel like without having to worry about time.
Thanks SKT-DK! Yes, it was a great day! I’m flying Thai Airways, Biz Class, so I’m hoping the lounge has decent food and drink.
I just happened to be in the lobby when I got your message, and based on what you said I asked for a late check-out: they only gave me 2 pm, but that’s not too terribly bad.
Tonight I walked the 20 mins each way down Silom Rd to the Patpong Night Market. Interesting but I didn’t care to stay long.
I’ll take a look at Jack’s, thanks for the recommendation. I’m only tempted to go to the Bamboo Bar at the Mandarin Oriental because one of my best friends works for MO and suggested it. He gets to stay at MO properties across the globe either for free or at a deep discount. :-)
Thanks to all of you helping me out during my stay in Bangkok. It’s been a great trip and I really liked staying in both Sukhmuvit and Silom—Silom is more my style; Sukhmuvit was a shock to the system! :-)
