I have an apostrophe in my last name that obviously causes issues from time to time (I’ve always said if my mother married a Smith, my life would be easier). For the longest time, I actually never had any issues with logging into my American Airlines account. However, as of late, this has become an issue.

I’m logged into the app and have recently booked two flights with my miles. When getting to the payment page to pay the small fee, they are rejecting my credit card name because it has an apostrophe in it. When I try again excluding the apostrophe, the payment page results in an error saying the name doesn’t match the name on the AA account (which has an apostrophe). After an endless loop, I had to call up to have the ticket finalized.

When I try to log into my account online (not through the app), it’s the same loop - using the apostrophe in my name causes an error, but omitting the apostrophe says the account is invalid.

Is the only answer to have the apostrophe removed in AA’s system? Would that have an impact on other issues (passport, TSA pre check, etc.). Just curious if other people have come across this and what the answer may be as this is the only airline I have an issue with. Is that just a phone call or do I have to submit ID (even though my ID”s have the apostrophe)?
I am in the same boat. For years I had the apostrophe in my AA account (but no other FF programs and not on drivers license.. but it IS on my passport) In any case, I never had an issue until 2021 when I tried to book an award ticket on Qatar. This caused chaos where I couldn't confirm and pay for the ticket as there was a name mismatch. The easiest way to solve this is to contact AAdvantage and ask for a name change and take out the apostrophe with no space. I've never had an issue with precheck, GE, payments, or anything else since I've done this. Good luck!
