I am trying to help my daughter (and myself) with a choice on types of seating for a IAD to LHR route. We are trying to take an impromptu fall trip and doing so on a budget as we have another bigger holiday planned for the following year.

I found a ticket for $825 for Economy standard and $625 Economy basic (round trip). We are novice travelers and are just wondering if the cost difference is worth it as we would want to sit together and therefore choose our seats. Not sure if the cost of choosing seats would bring the cost up to that of standard. It says on the description of standard that a fee is charged there as well, so I assume that price could go up, too.

I thank you in advance for any help you can give. She’s really trying to make this work within her limited budget and I hope I can share with her some sound advice.
