well that one is not visited by many foreign tourist as they focus on other nearby attractions and Wat Phra Kaeo, Wat Pho, Wat Saket, Golden Mount, Khao San Road, National Museum and others....
you could still visit the Ancient City as recommended above...worth a day trip...China Town you have seen after 1-2 hours
It was the one near the Grand Palace.
Today I went to Chinatown. Took about an hour of travel to/from, then about 3 hrs in Chinatown. First I visited Wat Chakrawat (“The Crocodile Temple”)—even my Concierge didn’t know what it was, but I found walking directions online. Saw several crocs there. No westerners there, but not very impressive other than for seeing crocs.
Worked my way down Yaowarat Road and eventually ended up visiting the Golden Buddha temple (easy to identify with all the tourist buses in front).
Tomorrow is a travel day—flying to Tokyo, then taking the Shinkansen to Kyoto; but my flight out of BKK doesn’t leave till close to Midnight. Incidentally I will be in a lay-flat Biz Class seat—first time ever after a lifetime of flying. It just kinda happened because it was the only class of award seat available at the time I booked, so I went with it.
So I could leave my luggage at the hotel and do more sightseeing; running out of ideas though.
Khao San Rd? Not sure I care about backpacker culture. I suppose I could still book a tour via my hotel to Ayutthaya, but that’s cutting it a little close for my tastes; and it will be hot as hell there.
I feel like I should probably do something tonight, like another rooftop bar but I’m a bit tired. The Mandarin Oriental is in walking distance though, so I suppose I could have a drink at the Bamboo Bar—but I don’t know how atmospheric it is. Is this worthwhile?
Gotta look back through my posts to see what the rooftop bar suggestions were. :-) I won’t explicitly ask again, but of course anyone is welcome to chime in!
