As for Hirado, I've never stayed at a "luxury" or even a near-luxury hotel or Ryokan Osen there (such a place may not even exist that meets such standards), rather, it's all pretty much been your average onsen-for-the-masses kind of place. We don't stay at Onsen Ryokan or hotels in Hirado that often (Unzen, Ureshino, and Obama are much closer and offer a better and wider selection), but as a data point, the last place we stayed at (just this year) was the Yukai Resort: Hotel Ranpu, Hirado. Yukai Resort is a small onsen hotel chain with hotels in Unzen as well. It's been around since the 80s and it probably won't meet your standards but it had a decent onsen spa (hot and cold baths with sauna) and the ocean view is very nice, but the rooms are dated. This is very much the state of such onsen resorts in Nagasaki Prefecture, so frankly, I'd just search online to see if you can't find something more to your liking.
Thanks. Yeah, I am not expecting any good ryokans near Hirado; in fact, I would be perfectly fine with a decent hotel sans Onsen, since that's not the purpose of a trip to Hirado. Anyways, I'm searching various Japanese sites and checking with friends to see if they have any ideas. I'll let you know what I come up with, if anything.
The reason we're bothering with Huis Ten Bosch is we're taking quite a few extended family members, with some of them having pre-teen children. It's something we do every other year (Beppu was our previous such trip.) After that, it'll be just Mrs. KI-NRT and myself, and we'll do some real touring

. There was recently a TV drama featuring Mei Nagano (
https://www.fujitv.com/drama/thegiftofyourheart/) that took place in Nagasaki, and there were several scenes where the protagonists were at Huis Ten Bosch (not to mention other major sites like Oura Cthedral) - so it's Mrs. KI-NRT's idea for everyone to go try it out. The plans haven't been finalized, and it likely won't be until 2025. It's either that or Tokyo Disneyland/Disney Sea, I suppose.
