Never tried it with the app but with the desktop client I can simply right click a message and one of the options is translate. With the usual headaches that robotranslation involves.
As I suggested previously, the in-app translate function/button is impossible to miss and is easy to use with messages, articles, screenshots, and pictures (e.g. doctors notes, signs, menus).
I definitely wouldn't describe it as headache inducing, but it's obviously not geared towards an academic audience (i.e. no guidance on pronunciations, word origin, usage, alternatives, etc).
