When Shuttle by United was first introduced, they offered a $19 ow fare on BUR-OAK if you fly off-peak days, and $38 ow for weekends with advanced purchase. I don't remember if it was a response to match WN's fare or the other way around, but cheaper than driving on the 5 regardless of gas prices.
