Intercontinental Hua Hin
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King Club Hua Hin suite, got a one-level upgrade to 1 bedroom premium suite. Very small price difference between the two. The Hua Hin suite has a jacuzzi on the balcony, the 1 bedroom suite has… a separate bedroom and is significantly bigger. So, prioritise what you need.
How are the rooms?
Our suite was very big (> 100 sqm). Big living room, walk in wardrobe, 2 toilets, shower, big bath, bedroom, 2 big balconies with seating. They had apparently just finished refurbishing the beach wings, but clearly that room wasn't renovated, although the A/V equipment (TV + Harman Kardon Aura) was recent.
How is the exec. lounge?
Enjoyable. Small area indoor + a terrace outdoor. Cocktail hours: indoor is reserved to adults, families with kids can use the terrace. Good à la carte menu for breakfast but barely anything else. We went there one day and then settled for the main restaurant which was much better. Similar story in the evening: very small buffet, but a nice set of canapés delivered to the table, rotating every day. Good cocktails too.
What was good and what was bad?
Good- Not many rooms, makes it less crowded
- Great breakfast at the main restaurant. Also, because the dining tables are spread across a few areas and there aren't that many rooms, it doesn't feel like a canteen. I'm usually happy to sacrifice a bit of choice and enjoy a peaceful breakfast at the lounge, but here the outdoor area near the main restaurant was very nice. I'd say it's one of the most enjoyable "main restaurant" breakfast I've had.
- Clean beach, very warm sea
- Good service overall
- There's a small train running around the resort, great for kids
- Location is good in the town (it does mean the resort has limited space, but it was OK). Connected to a shopping mall.
- Access to the Vana nava water park is great with kids
Bad:- Coffee
- The Thai restaurant there was really good but truly overpriced even for an IC hotel restaurant.
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Because there's no direct international flight to Hua Hin I think it's reasonable, especially as we booked a club suite. As a comparison it was much cheaper than the IC Phuket at the same time (early March), despite being in my opinion, a nicer resort. If we ever went back to Hua Hin, we'd happily stay again. Note that the blueport wing rooms are significantly cheaper, if the location in the other part of the resort doesn't bother you.
