The 1-2 punch of the pandemic and then the Lahaina fire (along with the governor pleading with everyone to stay away from ALL of Maui) has been hard on the island. Tourism here continues to be much slower than usual. Add to those events the general inflation that's happened over the last couple years and trying to fill high-dollar luxury hotel rooms is a rough plight. I work wedding and corporate events down in Wailea and we're running about half of what we were last year at this time. I talk a lot with people at the events and the ones that do show up all say they were really hesitant and fearful that they wouldn't be welcomed.
