For us, the location isn't going to be an issue as we are going to be coming off a week of theme parks in LA so my wife is looking for a place to unwind and just veg. Will probably buy some groceries from Costco to eat. Minimal traveling to sight-see will be required haha, and they seem to have stuff the kids might like to do.
Definitely was thinking of the HR La Jolla, but no award availability for the nights I was looking at in early June. And the rack rate for the Welk was 300+ so I thought that made it worth using points there. Seems like all of San Diego area is filling up for that weekend.
Location, lack of benefits, property and suites are fairly dated. Just overall I feel the value is $120-$150 and that’s the rates I most commonly see for The Welk so I wouldn’t pay more than that, which to me would be Cat 2 pricing.
Yeah, I mean if you just want somewhere to stay on property and unwind then The Welk would probably be best. For us, anytime we’re in SD we have certain things we like to do (specific dining options, Coronado Beach, La Jolla Cove, and so on). They do have a full kitchen and grills outside all around the property to cook your own meals too which we did the first 2 nights.
We really like Manchester because of the location, the Club Lounge, the Resort Fee Benefits (Harbor Cruise, Comp bike rental, $10 Daily Credit and so on) and the MASSIVE suites provided to Globalists. The only larger standard suite I’ve ever had was at HR Albuquerque that was very large and couple easily host 30 people for cocktails.
