I was surprised to read that. From the AR rewards dashboard, there isn't even a place to see an expiration date... I wonder if, in actual practice, the expiration date does not carry over... but apparently it is supposed to.
I appreciate your feedback. I can't believe their dashboard still doesn't have a method to see when buckets of points begin to expire.
I did call USB, and was told that if I upgrade to any Altitude card, my existing flexpoints will be redeemed immediately at 1 cent a point. No thanks.
They also couldn't tell me when the points I used for this summer's trip would expire if I canceled the trip. It will be the point's original expiration dates, but there was no way of knowing those dates until I canceled. They were able to tell me that my remaining $2K in points won't begin to expire until next summer, so that's a positive.
Oh well, hopefully I can travel later this summer so this becomes a non-issue.
