What is the security procedure like to take the train?
Train - just make sure you go to Venezia S. Lucia station, not Venezia Mestre. S. Lucia station is on the lagoon, you can go directly to your hotel.
Security: none whatsoever. If you're on the train by the time the doors close, you're good. But you have to handle your own luggage.
