Your secure flight data from BA to AS goes through without titles though, as that's a separate field/format. I wonder if AS is making assumptions and changing the SFD received from BA?

You might be able to make the booking over the phone and ask that your name is typed in (without title), instead of being pulled from profile - but BA may have the title as a mandatory field for the agent to enter in their interface, in which case that wouldn't work.

Otherwise it's just one of those things when a European format meets a US system. Sometimes the system translates, sometimes it comes out funny and the translation has to be done mentally.
They are either populating "MR" as the middle name, or as a last name "Mr Lastname". Of course, the real goal is to change/associate things that require a match: IE: Somewhich they allow -- IE Add TSA precheck # on as -- Some they don't allow -- associate a AS frequent flyer number.
