Obviously this forum attracts well-to-do white collar types, who have gotten ahead primarily due to conformity and blind rule following, so eh. I'll have to explain the obvious.

1. There is absolutely nothing wrong with moving to a shaded table when under the blazing, merciless sun, which can cause skin cancer. Just like p!ssing in the woods, it's pretty much a human right. ... And this was some hotel buffet, not a Michelin Starred restaurant.

2. European service standards are absolutely rock bottom across the continent. Some is pay, but a lot of it is cultural. Tips don't exist and Europeans frankly don't expect good service. Caveat emptor.

3. Okay, maybe this woman has to bus an extra table, maybe not. It's absolutely deranged to spray someone with disinfectant and then spray their food with disinfectant. Like, fisticuffs and violence have broken out over far less. Spitting is considered assault (and in the United States pretty much justified incredible violence in many states) and this is only slightly below that. Wow. But sure, have 20k points?

4. It sounds like OP is very financially well-to-do, given his status, lack of corporate job, and breadth of traveling. He can probably give two sh%$ about 20k points. Sounds like what he wants is proper acknowledgement, from Marriott really, that this absurdly disrespectful/ borderline assault act was, in fact, well below their service standards. How and when they should do that is up to Marriott to figure out, well, if they care about their brand & loyal guests.

EDIT: And honestly, I feel bad for the woman. If the story is accurate, sounds like she is going through some real rough mental issues. From the story, it sounds like she kind of disliked OP and/ or his wife from the start (why else reject them shade?). However, even assuming the most charitable case for the woman -- that somehow OP and his wife were completely insufferable somehow -- I don't know. The level of disrespect would have to be massive to justify spraying someone with water, let alone cleaning supplies, and it just doesn't sound like that happened. Plus she's an employee - you're paid to deal with insufferable guests and smile. But --- maybe she just went crazy for some other reason - she hates Americans or was having a bad day.
