We were flying along the coast and I was enjoying the view of the night lights (UD window seat), so I did not lower mine initially. A cabin crew very quickly told me to lower my blind as they walked past (giving me no chance to ask why..). They came back a short few minutes later and asked me again, visibly annoyed. I politely explained I was enjoying the view and would lower the blend the moment I stopped looking out. She insisted I needed to do it. When I politely asked why, she said it was because because daylight (which would not be an issue for several hours) would wake other passengers. I explained that I would not forget to lower the blind, she said that if I'd forget she would then have to wake me up, and I said that it would be perfectly alright/understandable for her to do so should I fact forget to lower the blind. I could see the frustration and I suppose I'd lost any service goodwill at that point, but it was Y so not much to lose anyway. At that point she let me be and 20-mins later with the coast out of view I lowered the blind.
My wife next to me was mortified but I felt I was in my right. I was surprised by the CC's attitude frankly.
I'm also in the camp of "let the natural light in" for day flights especially on eastbound cross atlantic day flights since it's generally day time at both ends of the trip.
The absolutely right thing to do and I would of done the same. I choose a window seat because I want to look out! Day or night! I'd never intentionally subject someone to glare but if i can look out the window I'm happy!
