The only time it was any sort of good value was when they offered the 90 days in advance £5.50 tickers but they stopped selling those last November. And definitely no longer of value now the cheapest fare is in the £ 16.00 range.
Also unless you’re staying very close to Paddington or have business there you’re likely better off getting (depending on you ultimate destination) Lizzie and / or the tube.
That's too bad the 90 day advance one was stopped- we used that once for our family of 4, were very happy with that plus the free tickets for under 16 year olds, getting into Paddington for 11 pounds was a very solid deal. Then we picked up Oyster cards with Young Visitor Discounts for the kids, and used contactless for the adults, which was cheap because already in zone 1 at that point. This was also before the Elizabeth Line was running straight through central London.
It's wild how the HEX has priced themselves out of competitiveness with the Elizabeth Line now through running.
