Driving through Napa recently, I saw lots of mid-range and economy hotels. We don't want some over-the-top spa, because we won't use its amenities, since it's a wine-tasting visit not a spa getaway. You will probably get the same advice, but many have enjoyed the Sheraton Petaluma, which is actually Sonoma County.
On my last trip, I personally enjoyed the wineries in Sonoma to Napa. Napa has become very touristy and Sonoma is a notch lower in that category.
