It is actually WIDER than J when set up... so those of us who happily sleep somewhat curled up (and are not too tall to start with) can be very comfortable IMO. As to cost, it always seems to come out about the same as Premium Economy... (SYD-AKL-LAX vv) and I can live with that for the chance to actually sleep. My only "complaint" is that the Skycouch rows seem to always board in the last row number group. The seats ARE well marked as "Skycouch" however and I have NOT experienced any poaching attempts. I
have regularly been asked questions about the product by genuinely curious Y passengers sitting nearby. Not really surprising.

Good point re: pricing. I'd say if flying a day flight then premium economy is the better choice, but for night flight at the same money I'd be taking skycouch any day of the week unless I'm going to get an upgrade.
One thing I wish was made easier is to book a Skycouch + extra seat across the aisle. When travelling with my wife & toddler we have done this (they get the Skycouch, I'm fairly content to just sit and watch some TV or play games on my phone) but there's no easy way to do this in 'one go' through the online booking interface.
