This is the White Lotus hotel from season 1 of the HBO series.
I thought Wailea hotels were able to command very high prices and get enough occupancy at those sky-high prices?
There were some articles coming out of the pandemic that many hotels were raising prices, a trend from before the pandemic, knowing that they'd have lower occupancy but they didn't want to reduce prices to entice visitors.
Another practice was not re-hiring all of the housekeeping and other staff. Some hotels, maybe not the real high-end resorts, were using the pandemic as an excuse not to provide daily housekeeping, so a lot of those workers didn't get their jobs back right away. Maybe some of them never got their jobs back?
