Bought two painted wine bottles in Syria. Flying out of
Beirut tomorrow night and then connecting in Doha and Saigon on the way to Cambodia.
Trying to decide if I should wrap them in clothes and pack them in my 29 liter soft sided checked backpack (risking breakage) or carry them on (and risk confiscation). I don't THINK glass bottles would be confiscated as a potential weapon.
But I didn't think my coffee mugs from the fake Starbucks Baghdad coffee mugs would be confiscated as a potential weapon when I flew out of Basra a few years ago, and they were. Even though they sold ceramics and dishes and snow globes past security.
What would you guys do? My checked bag would be very full, the bottles wouldn't be rolling around much. I could put the bottles in the middle with clothes all around them, and I have a few books and small wooden boxes to pack against the outer fabrics of the backpack for greater protection. I'm mostly worried about breakage via crushing, not from the bag dropping.
Would you guys risk checking the bag or try to carry two empty glass wine bottles through security at three foreign airports?
