I have had many different background checks in my life. When I worked for Brinks (Canada), the check required my fingerprints.
When I worked for Google, the background check did not involve fingerprints.
I have had jobs where I easily could have stolen $20M. I have had jobs where I never came anywhere close to money. The level of background check had almost no correlation to the potential risk.
