Posted essentially the same query in the hotels forum, but I'm new so I don't know how to do the cross-post thing, and I'd like some input on where The Gays are staying these days. You'll probably tell me: Russian River, not Napa. That's fine. Lemme hear it....

My partner and I are planning to meet in San Francisco for a long weekend (Thai New Year), with him flying KE via ICN (nine-hour transit outbound ) and me coming from ATL. We'll do the first night with friends in Palo Alto, then spend all day Thursday and the second night in California's wine country, most likely Napa. Then we'll spend the balance of the weekend in San Francisco. A regular tour de force of the Bay Area.

Driving through Napa recently, I saw lots of mid-range and economy hotels. We don't want some over-the-top spa, because we won't use its amenities, since it's a wine-tasting visit not a spa getaway. But we definitely don't want a roach motel either. Ideally a place big or relatively small with some local flavor where we'll be comfortable but not pampered. Definitely need something in Napa Valley itself, to cut down on time on the road.

Recommendations for and against?
