Uber/Lyft bakes the tolls into the quoted fare on the app, so you pay the same price whether you take a toll road or a free road, but you also know exactly how much the trip is going to cost when you get in the car. The only extras with Uber/Lyft are tips.
Ok so Carmel is actually better, as they include tolls, taxes and tips in the all-in quote (use the website not app to book), and maybe the tolls are a tad higher, but the base rates are fixed too, no surge pricing.
