Thanks all for the advice, I'm booked into a hotel in Freo and there is a Sixt office just around the corner so I'll grab a cab and hire a car next morning. I agree with Nivsy.. it's amazing that airport transport facilities close at midnight when there are scheduled flights arriving later... it's not as if QF 72 is a recent schedule addition! I'll be HBO so hopefully will be able to get through quickly.
