Be aware that driving standards are pretty shocking - there were over 600 reported collisions reported in Q1 (on an island of 60k people!), including several fatalities. Just let locals overtake you if necessary and be especially alert at junctions and roundabouts. Speed limits are often treated as just a suggestion and drink/drug driving is rife, especially on weekend nights. Fortunately we've never had any problems (apart from having the wheels stolen off our hire car one year!), but it's really important to have full insurance coverage. If your car gets damaged you will be charged the full amount for repairs, even if it's not your fault, in the event you aren't covered.
This is interesting as when i rented a car in the past i was told by the agent there that Cayman had the highest third party liability insurance in the world and could be sued for millions if i got into an accident and credit card coverage usually isn't enough and was upsold additional insurance for my rental. I always felt conned by this but the additional charge was only a couple hundred bucks. Do others buy additional insurance?
