1. Yes. Status boost counts as metal.
2. No. Flying a full Y indirect flight as noted up-thread for $860-ish will be more effective for SP earn - 124 metal plus (if holding ANZ Plat card) bonus 62 non-metal. This will be cheaper than the $45,000 CCrd spend needed for 180 SPs !
