April 2024 - part refurb underway
Agree with previous post. Bar restasurant area good. Staff attentive and professionalWhat is your IHG One Rewards status?
Diamond Ambassador – Lounge Pass
Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Generally very satisfactory for a UK CP
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
I booked cheapest rate and received same on Club Floor. So newly refurbished; that this was the first night in use!
How are the rooms?
26 sqm
Room refurb pleasant to good. But several glitches.
Very Comfortable bed.
USB including C sockets next to the bed. And below TV
No Free PressReader
Walk-in shower. Plus Bath.
BUT bathroom refurb was poor. Shower door seals broken and not closing. Shower head – like shower door – clearly not replaced. Spraying from the whole length of the fitting.
Bathrobes and slippers (may be club floor Standard room benefit?) – but no face towels
Fridge clearly an old movement sensor one moved from wardrobe to under TV in a cupboard that it didn’t fit in to. Slightest nudge of the door and the fridge bleeped complaining door not closed.
Sound proofing externally good – but between rooms wafer thin. Heating system extraordinarily noisy. Surprisingly necessary --- too given an 11th floor in April. Reading other reviews the AC has been complained about as being noisy and inefficient. I certainly wouldn’t book this hotel in The UK’s few summer months.
How is the exec. lounge?
Closed for Refurb. It should have been open the night of our stay but delayed. It is on the 11th floor and it appears to have a good view – unlike most UK CP’s.
Temporary lounge set up in B1 Bar area. Limited selection of reasonable canapes plus red/white wine and some spirits etc.
What was good and what was bad?
GOOD
A very well drilled delightful staff who worked like a team. First time I’ve seen in UK since Covid
Location is “good” - - close to Birmingham New Street station – although entry from that direction may initially give a less good impression.
Breakfast seems to use many standard UK IHG supply chain. But prep was far more careful than any other UK CP’s I have stayed at. I’m not the biggest fan of English breakfast! But enjoyed breakfast here.
BAD
Nothing really. But as above rooms are quite small and AC/heating noise has been highlighted as an issue in reviews and doubt if refurb has sorted this.
Value for $ or IHG One Rewards Points? Would you return?
Fair price.
Will return. Birmingham proved to be far more interesting than I had recollected.
