no more BA EC cards (at least in US)? no ID check at kiosks?

While talking to BA EC (US) member service today, I asked when I should expect my card, given that I'd signup in May but only got my welcome letter in November. They told me that they no longer send cards to ANYONE (ie, they implied it didn't have to do with me being lowly Blue or with me not having taken a paid flight yet or anything like that). I then asked about the online kiosk instructions which say to insert your BAEC card, and how you're supposed to use an airport kiosk if you don't have a card. They said that was a question for Reservations, and transferred me. Reservations first said it was a question for Membership, but when I balked and asked specifically how a member without a card is supposed to use a kiosk, they said I should insert my ticket. Then I asked what if I have an e-ticket and no physical ticket, and they claimed that I just type in my ticket number, that I need no card of any kind to establish my identity.

How much of any this is true?
