I don't know about the Marriott, but FWIW I have successfully used a gift card at the Renaissance Aruba, so if there is any similarity of systems/management/employees...
But I used my gift cards at multiple hotels in Vancouver and Victoria and had no issues, so there is that. (Sheraton Wall, Westin Wall, Marriott Pinnacle in Vancouver and the Marriott and Delta in Victoria. There might be more but those are the ones off the top of my head.)
