IMO, the only reasons to book with anyone other than the actual service provider is if you’re using points or awards specific to the OTA or the OTA is offering something not available through the service provider.

The risks rarely seem to work out in the customer’s favor and the rewards are typically non-existent.

Not a knock against the OP, as I’m sure they had their reasons. Just a general observation through personal experience and that of others.
