Generally not. If you spend on BA then the BA+ card gives you 3 avios per £ but with Gold you only get one MR (=1 avios) per £.
Vouchers can now be used for solo travel as well as couples. And the availability is enhanced to include I class business as well as normal reward seats, so availability should be pretty good as long as you book 6 months in advance (obviously depending on the precise route).
