Although you are technically right, JFK-NRT is actually not that much further than LAX-NRT because the planes fly more over the artic region than "straight-line" across the middle of the pacific. I think that JFK-Beijing(PEK) is actually only 600 or so miles longer than LAX-PEK.
And of course, as you all know, distance isn't the main consideration (albeit it is important) as say BOS-LGA fares are just as expensive as BOS-FLL or BOS-LAS many times.
