Is it worth traveling here from North America? Have been to Maldives a lot and love it, wanted a beach destination with potentially slightly more to do/see but still with the luxury. Am ambassador with Marriott if it matters so would hope for a private pool upgrade but realize those might be hard to come by.
It's been a few years since I stayed here, but it was one of my favorite hotels. Stayed in the Junior Suite, Rainforest Villa, and Grand Ocean Villa. The villas are extremely comfortable, so much so that you won't even want to leave the resort. The Junior suite was also excellent, very spacious and up in the trees. The beach is really poor here.
That being said, Langkawi is, in my opinion, a very boring island. There just isn't much going on and not so many great places to eat. I stayed here 3 times because I lived in KL, but I would never consider taking a long distance trip just to go to Langkawi. For me, you will get much better value in Thailand.
