This rule exists on a heck of a lot of Cathay tickets now, even up to higher priced business class ones (C/D/I/P) that I pay more attention to (not as sure on economy). Hence if you want to avoid it you would need to book either very expensive flexible tickets, or choose an alternative routing. It is a pain, and a real difference from pre-COVID.
Is this revenue protection overkill to make sure HK pax don't use outport tix?
