From my end here’s what I see -
Hotel is not only sold out but oversells rooms with Two Queen Beds. They then try to cover up their mistake by snooping in guests rooms via the maid. After that they then call guests to see if they could move 4 people to a room with only 1 bed, AND calling it an upgrade.
So the hotel screwed up and sold an extra room for what I can only assume is the Guaranteed Availability Rate since they have special bags at the FD for Globalists (1 Water, 1 Granola Bar, 2 mints) I noticed several there.
Also, we did come back and stay the 2nd night as stated above we just needed to deal with finding someone to watch our dog. We only brought one duffle bag which contained all of our kids toys, medicines and so on which is what we grabbed on our way out.
When we arrived to the “upgraded” room we noticed it was significantly smaller, and had no bath tub. Being large and having a bathtub are definitely two things we look for as our kids enjoy a bath after using the pool.
To me even if we left early I feel it’s very inappropriate for the FD to call and ask you to switch rooms for the sole purpose of accommodating another hotel guest. You booked a certain room, you’ve agreed and contracted to stay in that room. I also said above that we would’ve had no issue being walked and rebooked at another Hyatt had that been the case since they knew they were sold out. That would’ve been the proper thing to do.
The proper thing to do would have been to politely decline their request that you move rooms and to inform them that you will actually be back and haven’t vacated the room. It would have saved yourself a lot of indignation.
