Finishing up a 3 night stay the Marriott Royal Bristol. It's mostly positive, but not quite..

* Check in was very random. I asked to change credit card and was told "it had already been taken care of". Came back after the first night to find a letter demanding I come to the front desk to resolve my payment for the stay, which the agent had totally messed up. Very ood.
* Upgraded to a superior room, which had a nice view to the Cathedral and no external noise. No actual acknowledgement of my status though beyond this
* Rooms have been nicely redecorated, and bathroom had a walk in bath. Nothing too amazing but nicely done, comfortable and an Nespresso machine lurking in the corner along with 2 cans of water
* Breakfast is a decent spread, plenty of hot items, Fruit is the usual sad UK selection. Espresso available to order, but not the best quality.
* No hot water on the first morning due to a central fault. Things go wrong, but no apology or acknowledgement of the issue was pretty disappointing
* The in-house restaurant is a Miller & Carter steakhouse. For those unfamiliar, this is a mediocre chain charging a lot for very ho-hum meat. One to totally avoid, and rather out of keeping for allegedly the best hotel in town. It's also totally mobbed with people, spilling over into the bar space giving nowhere for guests to have a quiet drink. Surrounded by locals on a big night out is no fun. The hotel really needs an M-Club.
* Uber is very easy - there are normally 2 or 3 drivers waiting for a fare parked right outside the hotel

I'd stay again, and hope that the boilers all work and the front desk are trained on how to check a guest in!
