Interesting thought. The math would be: cancel the Platinum, get the Reserve = extra $300 annual fee. But now the spend only has to be half, (10 to 1 MQD) the tax fee goes down $521 and 29.1 redeemable miles worth about $291, so total fees = $300+521-291= $530. If you already paid the fee for the Plat this year, then hang on to it till next year as it will give you 2500 MQD just for having the card, as will the Reserve = instant SM every year you keep them. Additonally you will get 2500 MQD with the Reserve this year, so you will be under 500 MQD to PM, and then if you put 50K into estimated taxes (I'm assuming you were going to pay that much anyways) then your only 8k from DM. And you still have 8 months to get there...
