Thanks for everyone's comments.

This seems reasonable. It just seemed very improbable to me that I get an offer which makes no sense any which way.

I get this thanks, I presumed the flight must be oversold to a degree. It does seem odd that they are trying to pay people to not fly on that flight but still selling it. I don't really have any flexibility so I guess I will check in nice and early to reduce the risk of getting bumped.

I actually booked it in GBP to get a bit of cashback.

I think this is likely.

The email links to the previous flight on the same day. And then I can select more options. Including a flight the next day. I presume it is not change fee and no difference in fare. If it is not free of fare difference then it is terrible offer.

Fair point

Didn't even know I can check in, I will do that already.

Lots of eats and drinks in PNA. Mainly its just a nice place to live. My booking has been quite a cluster to be honest. I am flying from LIS on a separate booking. I already have foregone my LIS MAD ticket and booked a new one on the earlier flight because I decided I would probably not make the connection. The trains were not working out for the previous arrival from LIS. They might work for the new arrival from LIS but I already have tix for IB now. Had I originally booked the earlier LIS MAD flight then I am sure I would be on the train.

I don't know to be honest, possibly blame it on the weather and steal your money?
