Interesting thought. The math would be: cancel the Platinum, get the Reserve = extra $300 annual fee. But now the spend only has to be half, (10 to 1 MQD) the tax fee goes down $521 and 29.1 redeemable miles worth about $291, so total fees = $300+521-291= $530. Plus of course I would get the lounge access (I could cancel my additional member on my wife's card so that saves us $175 a year).
