- Name of the hotel:SO/ Paris
- What is your ALL status?Gold
- Were you (or for multi-stayers were you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?Yes overall I was happy.
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? We booked the Iconic - Paris Skyline room. No upgrade was offered; I didn't ask as my room had the view I wanted. To get a suite with the view I wanted would be jumping three tiers up which I don't think was realistic.
- How are the rooms?Comfortable and contemporary with stunning views, even though the weather was terrible during our stay. There's some bass noise that could be felt on the nights the club was open.
- What was good and what was bad?
Good:
- The view from the skyline rooms is likely among the best in the city
- While pricey, I find the food and beverage to be top notch. We booked a rate that included breakfast at a minimal price which was high in quantity and quality.
- I enjoy the neighbourhood; close enough to the action without being clogged by tourists, conventioneers, etc.
- The staff, for the most part, are friendly and proactive
Bad:
- Check-in was a bit of a mess: we provided a rough arrival time, and the room wasn't ready which is understandable. I will note that magically my room, along with everyone else's who was waiting in the lobby, suddenly became available the moment my watch rolled over to 15:00. They didn't have enough staff to process everyone and so it was hectic. We ended up in a room with someone else's luggage, though the porter overheard our room assignment and intervened so there was no waiting.
- We were on the 14th floor and noticed more noise from the restaurant/bar/club this time than last year when we had a similar room on 13. If you are sensitive to bass, I'd recommend asking for a room on 13.
- The service was a hair less polished this time around. Much of this for us centred around the rushed check-in (missing vouchers, no welcome gift, confusion over the billing). The only odd thing was we never had teacups in our room, we asked a few times and for whatever reason they could never provide them. Not a deal breaker, and I chose not to press the issue.
- Did you get club lounge access? How was the lounge? No lounge at this property
- What about welcome drinks, welcome amenities or any other special perks? No welcome amenity at arrival (see above) but mid-stay we returned to a non-personalized card, a fresh baked large cookie, and a half bottle of Laurent-Perrier on ice. We were offered a house juice blend while checking in, but I had to ask for the drink vouchers later that night. I received them without any pushback and received a profuse apology for the error.
I will note that as opposed to last year where the use of the vouchers at Bonnie Bar was quite limited, this time they were available for any cocktail, beer, or glass of wine. (Champagne was limited to the Perrier-Jouët.)
- Value for $ or Vouchers? Would you return? This stay was less impressive than last year, but I still enjoyed it and felt it was good value, though expensive.
