When this was initially available for non-Schengen passports (well before COVID), border police officers were all over the place. Some weren't sure why I was waving at them after going thru the 1st gate. One even came out of their booth to see what's wrong so I had to educate them they were suppose to open it remotely and stamp my passport but I suspect he might be new to the force; very young kid.
