As we landed in YYZ Sunday from MUC, the captain came on the PA and wished everyone the best luck watching the eclipse.
Weather in NW PA was very cloudy Monday AM. Typical.
@15yrold50k (former 6yrold-15yroldSE) flew a Cessna at FL8.5 for a good view after taking off from an airport close to Lake Erie.
I raced to another airport, where a
Gulfstream Piper Cherokee was fueled up with leaded gas and waiting for me. The guy flying sure was a real a**hole. (related: turned out to be MY very first flight lesson).
zone1boarding felt safer with an actual licensed pilot in the left seat & a second engine. Took an eclipse party flight DAL-PIT to watch from FL37. Totality view for a few seconds, from the floor, looking out the window at a difficult angle. The people on the other site of the plane (and someone who actually chose a windowless seat) just clapped "OOH, darkness."
Here are a couple of cool AVgeek photos. The jet was a TX depature, the piston aircraft was taken over Lake Erie near Ontario. Sounds close enough for us to forever claim they were of our family. Why let a few minor details get in the way of a good story.
