So I go to Change flight on the website, opt to change EWR-ZZZ, and enter in EWR-XXX instead. Everything looks good as I choose my flights. When I get to the confirmation page though, there is no sign of the ORD-YYY segment from leg #1 any more. Everything else seems fine, but it looks like it's just dropping that segment for some reason. I've tried a couple times over the past 24 hours and on different browsers. Always the same result.
I've tried to do the same on the mobile app and again everything looks fine until I get to the confirmation page and it has replaced the whole leg #1 (XXX-ORD-YYY) with totally random DEN-ORD-IAH flights for Feb 3 and Feb 4 which have nothing to do with my itinerary. And has a bunch of random gibberish below each segment: operator1 Governament (sic) Warning Label1 operator2 etc.
Is there some trick to making this work? Should I just cancel and rebook from the travel credits? Or just call in and get an agent to deal with it?
Thanks!

Do not use the change tool for this. It 100% doesn't work with multi-city. It will do something, but never what you want. If you check the fare rules pop up on the confirmation page, you'll see that it's just refaring the whole ticket with some other routing it came up with, and that indeed it's then dropping some of the segments that you asked it not to change.
