With a BAPP companion voucher (cost £250 currently), it's 160k Avios and £700. At 1p per Avios (£1,600) plus voucher fee (£250) plus £700 carrier surcharges = £2,550 - for 2 - vs £5,620 cash. Yes there are earnings you'd be missing out on for a cash booking but I can't see how it isn't a good deal to use the voucher, even with the high fees BA charges? Also likely didn't pay 1p per Avios to acquire in the first place. Am I missing something?
Yes, I do see your point and it does make some sense. I would spend around £20-£25K a year on the card which equals at least 30,000 avios (1.5 per £ spent). I earn other avios mainly from paid flights for work, so they are effectively free. Hard to say how many as the earnings rules have changed. I swear I was seeing far higher taxes/charges last week when I was looking at Nov dates, but now I am seeing RFS flights that match your numbers.
I think we will look to book ex-MAD on IB early in the new year for next Nov and benefit far more.
