Myself and my wife flew with Qatar a year ago in March and we have 15000 Avios Points which we just found out that we have, We also flew with Emirates in September which we have 7200 which start to expire in Aug 2026.

I don't really want to be tied to a certain airline since very often there can be a big difference in Price and there is very little between Qatar and Emirates, So price pays a big part in which airline we go with.


I would like to ask a few questions

1. Do Avios points expire , I understand that if there has been no activity on your account then you lose all the points.
2. Can you use the points on Seat selection when buying the cheapest economy tickers. I understand that you can upgrade to Business class with Points , But unsure if seat selection is included
3. Can you use the points in paying for a flight. ie Paying £800 for a flight, Can i use the points to get a reduction off the total flight
4. What is the average number of points for a upgrade to Business, Will this tell me during the booking process?

I understand that by collecting points , You can get to the next level and then you start getting perks with free flights and upgrades to business, I was a emirates gold member 15 years ago until they halved the number of points per flight but we will be lucky to be travelling twice a year which is UK to Asia

Is there anything else i can do with the points ?
